Mindkoo Bluetooth Speakers with LED Adjustable Lights

This new speaker from Minkoo was quite a bit larger at 23cm x 10cm x 6.5cm than I was expecting and together with the features it has to offer make it a good although not a bargain buy for a touch under £39.

In the attractive display box was the speaker itself, a USB charging cable, an audio cable and a User Guide. The don’t really need much of a User Guide for a speaker and you don’t get one here as the supplied guide is short, small but well printed and easy to read. I enclose a copy on the end of my unboxing video, switch to fullscreen and pause when needed to read it.

Build quality is first class. The speaker body is all consists of a metal grill surrounding the actual speaker unit itself with nine proper clicky buttons around the bottom to control tracks, volume, Bluetooth and lamp brightness. There is also is a micro-USB charging port together with a TF card slot and AUX in ports. The micro-USB port is just for connecting an external audio source and the built-in 2000mAh lithium rechargeable battery cannot be used to power or charge external devices.

Configuring the speaker for Bluetooth pairing is easy enough but not so easy as it could be due to the lack of voice guided status prompts. It paired first time my Nexus 6P phone and connected automatically when rebooted. From a Bluetooth 4 device like this I was hoping for more higher end features.

Sound quality from this speaker is good but not fantastic, which given the size and form factor is not to be wondered at, since the actual speaker is contained within a much larger outer body. That said, the audio quality is perfectly adequate for normal use and in fact better than I was expecting for the nature of the device. In any case no one would buy this speaker for the sound quality.

The selling point for this speaker is the LED light display and this is excellent but not spectacular. The lighting is subtle and restrained and would be perfect for use in a bedroom or as a nightlight. The light level can be easily controlled from the buttons on the device control panel. It looks great and would work well either as a general atmospheric generating device or as a night light.

In other areas it is not lacking in features. It can also play music from a micro SD card or from the audio AUX port. There is FM radio built in, which is a pity as many less expensive speakers feature this.

This is a fantastic speaker for the bedroom, living room or indeed anywhere you like as the upmarket but restrained looks should enhance any room.. The sound quality is good for the device price but the visual display and budget price makes up for all that it lacks elsewhere. The build quality is good and the speaker looks much more upmarket and sophisticated than I was expecting.

The unusual design, superb design and build quality make this an appealing buy despite the rather high price compared to similar and better specified devices.
