Kingland 48 LEDs Dimmable Folding Touch Desk Lamp

This attractive new desk lamp from Kingland arrived sensibly package in a plain and logoi free cardboard box with the lamp padded and protected inside. Included with the lamp was a medium length USB to micro-USB cable and a User Guide. No power adapter is included which is probably no big deal as most people already have them in good supply..

Build quality seems excellent. The lamp is an off white colour with a high gloss finish. It has a non slip finish to the underside with a well spaced array of soft touch buttons on the top of the stand to control Power, brightness up and down, Colour temperature presets, Timer presets. The buttons are discreetly illuminated for nighttime use. On the rear of the stand are the micro-USB power in port and a standard USB 2A output to charge or power external devices. The unit is powered from a standard USB 5v phone type power unit (not supplied) using am annoying short USB to micro-USB cable. I was very pleased to see a standard micro-USB plug has been used rather than the proprietary plug used on other similar lamps I have tried. I was also pleased to see that the output from the USB charging port was a healthy 2A not the 1A I have seen on rival lamps. Unlike other lamps I have tried this unit does not have a detachable head or internal rechargeable battery.

Using the device is easy enough. It fold flat for storage and when upright is pretty stable and wobble free. The 48 LED lighting head moves up and down but does not swivel or rotate. At the base too movement is limited and the upright again will not rotate unless the whole lamp is moved. Operating the lamp is very simple with a single Power Off/On button, the Mode button allows one of four colour temperature presets to be selected, the Brightness Up and Down buttons vary the light output and there are separate buttons for one or two hour timers.

This is an attractive lamp that is easy to use and with features surprising at the current £23.99 price. It is a pity the power cable is on the short side and that the lamp head is not more maneuverable. Nevertheless given the build quality, attractive design and lighting options I still think this is a great buy.
