Silicone seems to be the latest thing for kitchenware and certainly I have been very impressed by the baking tins and utensils I already have made from that material.
This new food storage container from ICOCO is the first I have encountered of this type and although not particularly cheap it seems well made and very versatile in use.
It is described as being medium sized and holds 735ml capacity. The lid, which has four latches to secure the contents, is rigid as is the lip of the container. The rest is the usual malleable and soft silicone. It will fold up tightly for storage or can be fully or partially expanded for use. It is not just a storage container and can be used for baking in the oven and in the freezer. The silicone material is safe for use between – 40`C to 230`C , so there are not many situations it cannot be used in. In reality it means you can safely decant hot food straight from the oven into it and thence to the freezer.
There are larger versions available and a three piece set can also be purchased.
This is a versatile and useful item which can be used in both the kitchen and for storage and whilst not cheap it is well made and should give years of careful use.
