Alisten Portable Bluetooth 4.0 Speaker LED Light Clock

Currently listed on Amazon at £50.00 reduced from £70.00 this is not not inexpensive and there are plenty of cheaper rivals out there but this well made and versatile speaker does have some qualities many rivals lack..

Inside of the attractive mid market box which was the speaker itself, a short USB to micro-USB charging cable, a mini-jack to mini-jack audio cable and a well written and easy to read large format but poorly translated User Guide. I enclose a copy of the User Guide on the end of my unboxing video.

The speaker has the square shape and format similar to models from Sony and although lighter in build quality in ABS plastic rather than the more expensive brushed metal rivals this one still has the same handsome appearance.

On the top is a large touch sensitive panel to switch the light off and on and to scroll through the four lighting states, sleep or cancel the alarm. Below this the usual music track controls and volume buttons. There is also a Mode button used to set the clock and alarm times. Scrolling through the Mode settings gives you Time-Calendar-Alarm- Bluetooth- Music Player – Line in- Sleep – Time. The track controls are used to advance or retard the Time and Alarm settings when in the appropriate mode. When a USB device or TF card is used the speaker will automatically default to that playing mode. Set it to Bluetooth mode to pair a remote device. On the rear of the device are the TF and USB ports together with a 3.5mm jack AUXin port, micro USB charging slot. I was pleased to see a separate OFF/ON turret switch which is far easier to use than the more common MF button.

Pairing to my phone was easy enough with the usual audio status alerts. It is a pity there were noice voice guided alerts. There is no NFC option either nor can the device connect to two Bluetooth devices at once. However, voice alerts are not really needed and how many people use NFC or multi device connections? After rebooting both the phone and speaker I was pleased to see they connected automatically when powered up.

The sound quality is excellent for the small size with plenty of volume and good powerful bass. For the size the sound is loud, clear and resonant enough to be heard when on the beach or outside in noisy situations. There is a useful Sleep node which powers speaker off after 15,30,60 oe 120 minutes of play. It can play MP3/WAV/WMA file types.

The unit is charged via a micro-USB port in the access panel. It sports a healthily sized 4000mAH Lithium battery which allows the device to function as a USB Powerbank charge or power external devices. The claims for six hour plus music playing usage per four to six hour charge from my experience seem pretty realistic. When used just as a light it can give up to 15 hours in dim mode.

Had I been awarding stars I would have been tempted to knock one off due to the high price, lack of FM radio and NFC, which can be found in many less expensive similar sized devices but in the end decided the sound quality and other features more than make up for these frequently little used features.

This is an excellent quality Bluetooth speaker with elegant looks, great sound, robust build quality and excellent feature set.
