This new 1080P Security/Baby Monitor from ANNKE has an unusual and not unattractive design which goes some way to hide the fact that it is yet another FOSCAM based camera, not that there is anything wrong with that.
In the box was the camera itself, an Ethernet cable, printed Quick Start Guide, UK Power adapter, Software CD, mounting kit with screws, bracket and template. The build quality seems fine with nothing looking like it about to break or fail anytime soon.
As with so many of the latest IP cameras there is an app to download to your iOS or Android phone after which you have to register an account after which you can use the app to configure the camera to your wireless network. The manufacturers seem to prefer us to set it up this way but after having trouble getting similar cameras to work I prefer to set it up the traditional way, which has the advantage that you do not need to register an account to use the camera. To do this connect the camera to the router using an Ethernet cable (one is supplied) and from the router control page take note of the IP address of the camera. Use your web browser to go to this address and log in to the camera and navigate to the settings page for wifi and input your home network wifi name and password. You can the reboot the camera and it should connect automatically to the wifi. Using the web control panel in this way will also give access to additional setting s not available to the phone app. The supplied CD software should allow you to connect this way also.
The results from the camera are excellent. The video quality is one of the best I have seen for a camera in this price range. It has a pan and tilt head so you can remotely control it to point at anywhere in front of it. It has motion detection and will send email alerts and live push notifications to the phone when triggered. The phone app is one of the best I have tried of this type, not that this is saying much as most are pretty dire. It can function as a baby monitor and supports live two way audio with an audio out port to allow connection to am external speaker so the baby can hear you properly.
This is a good quality IP camera capable of producing good results and at the current Amazon price of £89.99 it is not a bad buy. However, similar cameras are available for less.
