There are a large number of neck and shoulder massagers similar in appearance to this one but costing far less and I was interested to give this one a try to see just how much better a premium product such as this one actually is.
The item was supplied in an attractive and upmarket product box, clearly reflecting the German origins of the device within and robust enough for storing the device in when not in use. Inside the box aside from the device itself was a UK power supply, car adapter, large carry bag, two additional massage head mesh covers for different skin sensitivities with a separate storage bag and a large and easy to read colour User Guide.
The massager consists of a large and quite heavy twin roller mechanism each with four heads contained in a shawl like affair with a rather attractive PU leather material to the outside and a robust detachable mesh to the inside. It has two slings that stretch out either side into which the arms are placed to hold the roller tight to the shoulder and in so doing vary the strength of the massage effect as needed. On one sling are the four control buttons: On/Off, massage roller direction, roller speed, heat On/Off. There is also a bright array of red LED’s which light up around the rollers when it is in use. It has a built in auto off feature after around fifteen minutes of use.
The build quality seems very good and the build quality has an upmarket feel lacking in the budget rivals. The switch assembly seems well made and has a good positive action although there are no status LEDs. The accessories included all seem made to the same high standard.
In use it is easy enough, you just rest it on your shoulders, switch on and hold it in place using the arm slings to maintain tension. It can also be used on the back or indeed any part of the body it can be applied to. It should be noted that the device is by no means lightweight and a person particularly weak or frail could find this problematic. The rollers have a very powerful action which can be controlled by varying the tension it is held in place by the slings, although the direction and speed of the roller travel can be changed via the control button. The heat action is pleasant and quite pronounced but again cannot be varied other than by turning it off. It comes with a UK power supply but the cable length is too short and long enough only for use when positioned immediately next to a socket. It is also, bizarrely, provided with a car adapter those people needing a massage when travelling. The massage effect is very powerful and perhaps not for the fainthearted.
This is a well made and very effective massage unit and in performance as well as build quality exceeds that of the cheaper rivals. However, with similar albeit no so good copies available from £30 you may think twice before parting with the current Amazon price of £169 for this one. But as always in life you get what you pay for.
